Learn To Handle Your Anger
By Adam White

Anger is an emotion that we feel and there is no way to avoid getting angry every once in a while. Some people become angry very easily while others seem be hesitant to show this emotion. To feel angry instantly reacts on the body by tensing the muscles, altering one's judgment and changing the way they may have reacted if they weren't angry. It can also cause you to hold your breath or feel out of control. Anger has a way of twisting your words into hurtful or cruel words that you may regret later. Controlling anger may not always be easy, especially if the anger is out of hand. Some signs that anger is out of hand include:

  • - Yelling and screaming
  • - Causing bodily injury to yourself or someone else
  • - Saying things that you know are hurtful in order to make someone feel bad
  • - Physically reacting to anger, such as destruction of property or vandalism
  • - Insulting someone
  • - An overwhelming urge to hit something or someone

Learning how to recognize anger that is "out of hand" can determine if someone needs to seek professional help or try to handle the problem on your own. Being aware of your anger is the first sign of getting better. If you don't realize that there is a problem you may not be able to receive the help that you need later on.

Anger Management

There are several ways to effectively manage your anger on your own. Everyone is different and so the level of anger may depend on the individual. A few ideas would be to

  • Learn to think before you speak. This can be difficult as anger sometimes makes you feel out of control. You may need to count to 10 to yourself and use this time to calm yourself down and think about what you are going to say and other ways you can say something. Words can be very hurtful and once you say them you cannot take them back.
  • Walk away when you get angry so you can cool off outside or in another room
  • Talk to your doctor about ways you may be able to control your anger with and without medication
.

These are just a few suggestions you may want to try. If your anger gets out of control and you are afraid you may hurt something or someone, including yourself, you may need to speak to your doctor for advice. Anger can be controlled and you can live a successful life with anger management. If you forget what just happened after being in an uncontrollable rage you may need to contact your doctor to make sure that you are okay. Sometimes rages or uncontrollable emotions can be a sign that something is not right. You may want to reverse your feelings of anger by reminding yourself of what you should be happy about. This is a form of talking yourself out of something and it is easy to do once you get started.

The next time you become angry you may want to try the natural ways of cooling off before you say something that you may not be able to take back.
