Controlling Anger With Anger Management Techniques
By Norman Holden

Anger is a normal reaction, which every person feels and exhibits when threatened by someone or something in certain situations. When we talk about dealing with anger, we often think about anger management because we believe that the anger management therapists have all the solutions to our problems.

It is true to a certain extent, but every problem is different and the issues that have led to a person' s anger issues may not be the same as another persons. The solutions to these issues may be very different indeed. There is no such thing as the perfect technique that will work for everyone.

There are many people who have mature anger, meaning that they are able to manage their anger and can find a solution to their problems, without hurting themselves or anybody else. Some people have a more immature form of anger, those are the people who cannot manage their anger and emotions and are prone to shout when angry, blame other people for their problems, and hurt other peoples' feelings. People with immature anger can also attack a person physically and are in desperate need of a more appropriate management strategy.

Anger management therapists can provide us with the tools and techniques, with which we can address our problems and can help us to find a solution to these issues effectively. With the help of counseling, we can look at a certain situation from different angles and if the situation is threatening, we can find the best possible solution without resorting to physical violence.

We encounter many people in our lives that cheat us, betray us, lie to us, disrespect us, interrupt us, or even threaten us. These types of people basically want to disturb our lives and our state of mind, and to some extent they are successful in their intents. No-one likes to get bullied constantly and a point may come when we will explode with anger. It is quite natural to try to avoid someone who is disrupting our lives, but one day we decide to fight fire with fire and we stand up for ourselves and think of it as the best way for us.

Standing up for our rights and defending ourselves when threatened is alright, but not if we actually assault a person physically. If you are on the verge of your anger erupting, you need to take a little step back and confront your anger and face up to the person who is creating problems by telling them to stop creating obstacles for you and report them to authorities if necessary.

Everybody in our society is in need of some form of anger management therapy and help is often needed in terms of controlling the emotions of anger and restricting ourselves from being pushed over the edge. There are many resources which everybody can benefit from. The basics of anger management are as follows:

1. First of all, identify that you are suffering from immature anger outbursts and you can hurt people verbally and physically.

2. When you have identified your problem, try to solve it. Make a habit of writing down anything which irritates you in your anger management journal and read your journal when you are in a calm and poised state of mind and identify the trigger points. The trigger points can be a person or a specific situation, whatever it is, confront it in a positive way and talk out the solution to your problem. This technique has proved quite effective for a lot of people.

3. When your are angry, you do not get good vibes from anyone and you just want to punch the person who irritated you. When you are feeling like that you should punch something you have near you, like your bag, or a cushion, which will not hurt you, and keep on punching until you feel relieved.

4. You can attend anger management classes or activities where you can express your problems and listen to the problems of other people and see how they confronted anger and remained in control of themselves.

5. To avoid a verbal or physical fight with anyone, you should be the first one to step up and offer to talk things over when you are both calmer.

6. There are many beneficial anger management tools and techniques that can help you fight your anger with positive energy. Just keep telling yourself that you are stronger than your anger and you are going to control your life.
